Phone Manners

Verbs: help, speak, hold, transfer, to be, know, take, ask, call, see, get

Situation 1 – Useful telephone conversation
Operator: ABC motors good morning, how may I help you?
Caller: Good morning.  May I speak to one of your sales representative?
Operator: Sure. Hold on a second and I will transfer you.
Caller: Thanks.
Operator: I am sorry.  The line is busy, will you hold?
Caller: Yes, I will hold. Or could I speak to Mr. Basheer please?
Operator: I am sorry; he is in a meeting at the moment.
Caller: Do you know when he will be back?
Operator: He should be back around four. Can I take a message?
Caller:  Yes, please ask him to call Kumar on 629 3478
Operator:  629 3478, right?
Caller: That is right.
Operator:  OK, I will see he gets your message.

Situation 2 – Salesman
Verbs: to be, give, clean, interest

You         :  Hello.
Salesman :  Hello. How are you today?
You         :  Fine, thanks.
Salesman :  We will be in your area tomorrow. May we give you an
                   estimate to clean your carpet?
You         :  We are not interested. Thank you. Good bye.


Situation 3 – Wrong Number

Verbs: to be,check

You    : Hello.
Caller : Is Mary here?
You    : There is no Mary here. Please check the number. Good bye.
